Online ads for Arts Centre Melbourne’s Supersense Festival Simon did with Vanessa from Work The Crowd was so good, they turned into a TV commercial. Supersense is described as a festival of the ecstatic: a hypersensory playground for the curious and the bold… Melbourne’s transcendent new arts festival. Work The Crowd, who we met on Twitter at Sydney’s Remix Summit, needed to cut together images and text in a way that matched the already provocative, rock electro style of the festival. Given a clear, strong brief, and supplied music by Lydia Lunch and Ariel Pink, this job is exactly where we live.
The analogue static, the glitching, mirrored style and cuts to the scratching, thumping beat resulted in two tight, simple videos for online distribution, to promote the Friday and Saturday line ups. The Arts Centre client liked what we’d done together so much, they ditched a planned TVC and got us to reuse our style for a 30 TVC. We got to dust off the Dubsat knowledge and take care of quality control for the finicky technical process of getting approval for the television ad. This was a rad job with a cool client who had a ideas we were stoked to execute.
